“Bell is a key anti-transgender voice in the psychoanalytic canon. He first published his anti-trans positions that providing gender affirming care amounts to harming children in the International Journal of Psychoanalysis in 2020 (Bell 2020). This rhetoric has since been picked up by the far right to call gender affirming care child abuse. In 2021, Bell published again in the International Journal of Psychoanalysis a revision of a live online debate with Avgi Saketopoulou, reaffirming and digging in on his position (Blass, Bell, and Saketopoulou 2021). However, his biggest impact is in the anti-trans political movement: in the expansion of anti-trans policies in both the US and the UK, Bell is amongst the vanguard of the anti-trans movement (James 2025)
