The College of Psychoanalysts – UK and Academy of Psychoanalysis 2020 International Conference on Psychoanalytic Work in Adverse Conditions will be held on 7 November 2020 on Zoom.
We will have speakers from Brazil speaking about working with marginalised social movements, from India on the specific problems faced for psychoanalysis under the Hindutva regime, and from Ireland about the very different conditions faced by a psychoanalytic community with a long and radical history. We will be joined by colleagues from other parts of the world reflecting on innovative practice in conditions that demand of psychoanalysts and analysands that they take into account the cultural-political context of their work.
There will be two sessions. The first session will be from 10.00 to 11.15 with contributions from Brazil, India and Ireland about psychoanalytic work on those very different conditions. The second session will be from 11.45 to 13.00 focusing on the challenge posed by COVID-19.
The conference is open to members of the College of Psychoanalysts and of the Academy of Psychoanalysis, and to members of the public for those who register via Eventbrite. For this online open-access zoom conference we are asking members of the College and Academy to donate £10, and asking members of the public to donate £20 to the College.
In the unlikely case that conditions ease sufficiently for us to be able to meet face to face, we will complement the online Zoom conference with a meeting in London at the Islington Resource Centre.
For details on how to make a donation and for updates on the conference arrangements see the College website www.psychoanalysis-cpuk.org or contact collegeofpsychoanalystsuk@gmail.com
